What you see here is Wen Tianxiang Square. Wen Tianxiang (1236-1283), born in Jishui (now Jiangxi), was a loyal minister of the Southern Song Dynasty, the Right Prime Minister, a literary figure, and a national hero. His poem goes: 'Since ancient times, no one has died. Leave your heart to shine in history.' It indicates his determination to uphold national integrity until death. According to historical records, in the second year of Deyou (1276), Wen Tianxiang was appointed as the Right Prime Minister and the Minister of State for Peace, but was detained by the Yuan army. Later, he was able to escape through Gaoyou in Zhenjiang. In order not to cause disturbance to the city, he hid in the Ma Yin Tang outside the city and later escaped from there to Tongzhou. During his refuge in Gaoyou, Wen Tianxiang left many poems recording Gaoyou. In order to better commemorate him, the Wen Tianxiang Square was built at the place where he once stayed. The sculpture of the Southern Song Dynasty martyr Wen Tianxiang standing by the river is vivid, and four ancient poetry stone carvings, including "Nostalgia of Gaoyou", "Sending Gaoyou", "Sending Gaosha", and "Supreme Sand", record the inseparable bond between Wen Tianxiang and Gaoyou.
